On 30th July 2024, at approximately 3 AM, a severe mudflow incident occurred in Vythiri Taluk, Wayanad. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) reported significant destruction and loss of life. In response, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Kerala promptly mobilized resources and personnel to support government crisis management efforts.

Volunteers provided essential supplies, set up collection centers, and supported victims with medical aid and set up counseling support cell to help victims in overcoming the mental trauma experienced during the disaster.

The NSS also developed a comprehensive rehabilitation plan, including the construction of 150 houses, campaigns for students to return to school, mobile app development for coordination of relief equipment, setting up of restoration camps, and volunteering activities.

We have received several items such as clothes, stationery, medicine and eatables from different NSS units all over Kerala .They have sorted the items that we received and distributed among disabled people in cooperation with 15+ volunteers and teachers. We have completed the work perfectly and it's on-going.

Feedback - 2 (Harsha): I am Harsha Malti from Wayanad. We all are aware of the unfortunate incident that happened in Mundakkai village in Wayanad. As volunteers of NSS, we have been able to work in various fields for the victims as it is our responsibility to lend support to people. As our primary activity, we were able to join hands and provide mental support to the affected people. As volunteers we are sure that we will provide our full support in restoring back a living environment to the affected people by taking up necessary activities till the end .
